One-Day Literary Translation Workshops (2021)

I'm running a series of one-day literary translation workshops through 2021, in partnership with BCLT.

They take place on the second Tuesday of every month, 10am-5:30pm London time.

Workshops are held on Zoom, and are open to early-career literary translators anywhere in the world who work into English.

Depending on demand, priority might be given to translators who have not yet had the opportunity to participate in similar workshops, those who work with less commonly translated languages, and those from backgrounds or communities under-represented in the profession.

Schedule

Most of these one-day sessions are general multilingual prose workshops, for translators working from any language to English; a few will have a linguistic, generic or thematic focus. The initial schedule of workshops is as follows:

12 January - Multilingual prose [applications closed]
9 February - Multilingual prose [applications closed]
9 March - Children's books [applications closed]
13 April - Multilingual prose [applications closed]
11 May - Multilingual prose [applications closed]
8 June - Portuguese [applications closed]
13 July - Multilingual prose [applications closed]
[10 August - no workshop]
14 September - Multilingual prose [applications closed]
12 October - Multilingual prose [applications closed]

Applying

We are currently seeking participants for the September and October dates. To apply for a place in one of these workshops, please e-mail [email protected] with a few lines about yourself and your work (and any preference for which session), by June 14th.

Those selected for the September-October workshops will be notified by the end of June.

(Please note: If you have already applied for previous workshops and asked for your details to be kept on file, there is no need to apply again.)

Fee

The fee for participating in a workshop will be £35 (GBP). All proceeds will contribute towards bursaries for increasing access to BCLT's annual summer school.

(Please note that we are able to offer a number of free workshop places, so if you are keen to take part but unable to meet the fee, do please get in touch anyway and we'll waive it if we can.)
